Twelve Olympic champions are part of the list of nominees for the 2024 World Athletics Track Athletes of the Year. They include 100-meter gold medalists Noah Lyles and Julien Alfred. The sport’s international federation named six male and six female nominees for the awards.
In addition to winning gold in the Olympics, five of the twelve athletes (three women and two men) set new world records this year. According to bookie pay per head experts, each category will have two finalists and the chance to be the overall World Athlete of the Year.
Female Nominees for the 2024 World Athletics Track Athlete of the Year
- Julien Alfred—Alfred won the 60-meter global indoor championship in Glasgow in March. She was also a two-time Olympic silver medalist in the 100-meter and 200-meter events. Alfred's 100-meter gold medal made her the first athlete from Saint Lucia to win an Olympic medal.
- Beatrice Chebet - Chebet won gold in the 5000-meter and 10,000-meter distance doubles at the Paris Olympics. Furthermore, in May, at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, USA's Hayward Field, Chebet shattered the 10,000-meter world record.
- Faith Kipyegon — The Kenyan was the first female athlete to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 1500-meter race.

- Marileidy Paulino—Besides being the 400-meter world champion, Paulino won the Olympic gold medal in Paris, France, after breaking the record for 28 years.
- Gabrielle Thomas—Among the track athletes competing in Paris 2024, Thomas won the 200-meter dash, the 4x100-meter relay, and the women's 4x400-meter relay.

- Grant Holloway—Holloway eventually won the 110-meter hurdles Olympic title in Paris three years after suffering a shocking loss in Tokyo. However, he also had indoor success, first breaking the world record in the 60-meter hurdles in February and then winning the indoor world championship in March.
- Jakob Ingebrigtsen - Despite losing his 1500-meter championship in Paris, Norwegian Ingebrigtsen became the first athlete born in Europe to win the 5000-meter event since Barcelona 1992 by taking home the gold.
- Noah Lyles - In Paris, Lyles won the 100-meter event and added the 200-meter bronze medal, even though he wasn't quite fit for the second race. At the Stade de France, the American set a new personal best with a winning time of 9.79.
- Letsile Tebogo - When he won the 200-meter race in Paris, the African record holder made history by becoming Botswana's first Olympic winner. Additionally, in 2024, his run of 19.46 was the quickest time for the distance.
- Emmanuel Wanyonyi—He is only twenty years old but had an outstanding 800m season. In addition to winning gold at the Olympics, the Kenyan shaved tenths off his best, bringing it down to 1:41.11.
